Create Normal Maps in Photoshop
If you are using an Nvidia graphics card, there is a free plug in for photoshop that you can use to create normal maps from your grayscale images. Check it out: http://developer.nvidia.com/object/photoshop_dds_plugins.html
You can use this as a substitute for crazy bump. You don't have the same control as crazy bump has but it is still better than just using regular grayscale bump maps.

Overhead Map

Map for GD330 project. Setting: Post apocalyptic Los Angeles (only a small part of course). The place is completely barren and turned into a dessert. There's a few small towns and ruins around the area. The biggest town is in the center, surrounded by steep mountains of sand. My first time making an overhead map.
